SCF PRESIDENT PAPPAS ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 17, 2007) - College of Florida President Sarah H. Pappas has announced her retirement, effective June 30, 2008.

Named the college’s fourth president in 1997, Pappas’ retirement will cap 11 years of overseeing dramatic growth at SCF and 40 years of progressively responsible positions in Florida’s higher education system.

The announcement of Pappas’ retirement was made to SCF trustees, faculty and staff at the commencement of the college’s Fall term. In a statement (attached), Pappas said that she plans to remain on the job through June 30.

“Under Sarah Pappas’ leadership, SCF has expanded and improved in every way from enrollment to the quality and number of programs, to outreach and partnerships with businesses and a higher profile in the community. She is leaving our college in an excellent position for the next president,” said Steve Harner, chairman of the SCF district board of trustees.

At the Sept. 19 meeting of the SCF board, Pappas will present trustees with information about consultants experienced in conducting searches for college presidents.

“An experienced consultant will guide us in the search process, including the preferred committee size, composition and myriad essential details,” Harner said.

The search will commence after SCF trustees select the consulting firm. A new president could be named by late April 2008 and on the job July 1, 2008.
